The challenge of food security, especially in the face of rising food prices, places a serious responsibility before the country. Despite immense advances in the agriculture sector, many people still sleep hungry or live under the threat of food shortage. The degradation of natural resources is also a major concern as it severely impacts the livelihoods of poor and backward communities in rural areas. In this backdrop, sustainable agriculture is one of the most effective ways to respond to the challenges of the rural community. In essence, Sustainable Agriculture refers to a set of practices adopted for cultivation that are least harmful to the environment while also ensuring a good crop.
It involves crop production methods that support sustainable natural resource management to increase crop productivity, maintain biodiversity, and also are economically viable and socially acceptable. Organic farming is generally sustainable; however, organic produce can also be cultivated on large scale industrial farms that are not sustainable. Soil and water management, organic farming, integrated pest management, and integrated nutrient management are common practices promoted under sustainable agriculture. Sustainable agricultural development, as well as employing organic farming methods, seeks food and nutritional security, improved livelihoods for our people, safe ecosystems, and sustainable economies of agriculture.
The LTV volunteers will be given opportunity to understand the social and cultural aspects of the community/Project they work. The volunteers will be given experience through interactions, workshops, exchange of ideas, baseline and endline survey of the projects with the support of the mentor. At the end of their projects the volunteers will present to the Universities about the outcome and impact of their projects. The project activity will consist of community service, development Learning, Cultural exchange, Project and personal evaluation.
As a volunteer in this field of work you will -
• Work with the farming community and the associated organizations that assist in sustainable agriculture and/or organic farming.
• Conduct community awareness on the importance of sustainable agriculture.
• Facilitate training and capacity building on crop productivity, how to maintain biodiversity, water management, organic farming, integrated pest management, and integrated nutrient management, surveys, documentations etc.

A sustainable future for the planet can only be achieved if both animals and people are part of the solution. However, it is not at all uncommon to see animals - domestic, stray or wild often exploited and taken for granted. It is a forgotten fact that even they need food and water. Conservation and management of animals have a significant bearing on the survival of every species by helping in promotion of rational use of environment to provide a high quality of living for mankind.
Animal care and conservation envisages not only the protection of the existing populations of animals and their habitats, but also the breeding and farming of rare animals. As a volunteer you will be assigned to work with organizations involved in the field of impacting political and economic climate, habitat protection, breeding and farming, special wildlife projects, legislative measures, nurse ailing and injured animals.
The LTV volunteers will be given opportunity to understand the social and cultural aspects of the community/Project they work. The volunteers will be given experience through interactions, workshops, exchange of ideas, baseline and endline survey of the projects with the support of the mentor. An Anganwadi (meaning ‘courtyard shelter’ in Hindi) is in many ways a day care centre for children below 6 years of age and were established around the country in 1975 as a part of the Government of India’s Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS). One of their main functions is to provide non- formal, pre-school education to children between the ages of 3 to 5. The LTV volunteers will be given opportunity to understand the social and cultural aspects of the community/Project they work. The volunteers will be given experience through interactions, workshops, exchange of ideas, baseline and endline survey of the projects with the support of the mentor. At the end of their projects the volunteers will present to the Universities about the outcome and impact of their projects. The project activity will consist of community service, development Learning, Cultural exchange, Project and personal evaluation. Volunteers will be expected to teach children in this age group through various interactive and creative activities that will help improve the cognitive skills of
the children. The pedagogical approach to teaching should be in accordance with standards employed in kindergartens around the world. Anganwadis were also envisioned as a part of the Indian public healthcare system. Along with providing pre-school education, one of their main functions is to act as primary healthcare centers in villages and raise awareness of health and hygiene in their locality. Volunteers can also help these workers in providing health, hygiene and nutrition education to families. This will include teaching them about family planning, educating parents on child growth and development, among others. The volunteers should bring in creative ideas to initiate new activities in the school. It is important for the children to be felt loved and cared for by you, as you will be surrounded by them every day.
This type of project is perfect for you if you are someone who has many ideas in teaching different kinds of activities such as games, songs, arts and crafts or sports and athletics to! You will be teaching a variety of subjects depending on your personal interests and skills. Volunteers should have a good level of spoken English, and previous experience in teaching children will be useful.

Note: Please note that due to school holidays, these projects will remain closed during the following months: March until May; in the month of October; and sometimes in December. During these months, FSL India organizes Summer Projects (in March/April/May) and Winter camps (in October). The volunteer will be the project leader and will be the responsible for the coordination of the activities that the group of international volunteers will engage in. Each MTV includes two short term projects that will be led by a volunteer. Your tasks will be the following:
1. The volunteer has to arrive to Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico on the first day of the workcamp for a compulsory leader training course. During the training all the tasks will be explained in detail (reception of the volunteers, management of extra fee, recreational activities and time management). The volunteer will be traveling to La Penita de Jaltemba, Nayarit after staying for six days in Morelia. The travel costs to the workcamp will be covered by Vive Mexico. After finishing the workcamps in Guayabitos, the volunteer can directly leave, he/she does not need to go back to Morelia.
2. To coordinate the reception of the volunteers
3. To organize activities with the local coordinator
4. To organize free time activities with the group
5. To submit reports of the activities planned to Vive Mexico
6. To take photographs during the workcamp
7. To encourage the volunteers to participate in the activities
The volunteers will be working at night from 20:00 to 08:00, four days per week with an average of thirty hours. Depending the number of turtles that come ashore, two teams might be formed among the volunteers. In this way, each group will be taking turns, working one night and taking the next night off for recovery. In addition, the weekends are also spared for resting. Some of the activities to be performed are:
1. Finding adult turtles and collect their eggs.
2. Moving the eggs to a protected place called Vivero.
3. Releasing newborn baby turtles into the sea.
4. Patrolling the beaches at night.
5. Making some reconstruction in the most important turtle camps of the region.

During their stay in Morelia City, leaders can take a walk in downtown which has many cultural activities throughout the year, and discover the variety of historic buildings and monuments, for those looking to surround themselves by natural wonders, Morelia offers many options: 45 kilometers from Patzcuaro´s lake and the ancient pyramids of Tzintzuntzan, the magical towns of Cuitzeo, Patzcuaro and Santa Clara del Cobre, the islands of the Pancada, Janitzio among others that the native cultures identified as the border between worlds, and several ceremonial centers of the Mesoamerican pre-Hispanic times.
Once in Guayabitos, leaders enjoy various activities in one of the most attractive destinations in Mexico. The area extends approximately 300 kilometers along the coast, integrated by mountainous jungle and facing coastal islands. For those seeking a more rural and rustic side of Mexico, the Riviera has a massive open space for everyone along the Nayarit coast beaches, for those who want to relax, quiet beaches and other beaches with heavy waves for surfers. In their free time leaders can go on their own to Bahia de Banderas, Nuevo Vallarta, Punta Mita, Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit.

Volunteers will be hosted in a hotel in a shared room with all facilities at their disposal namely, private bathroom, hot water, swimming pool, WIFI, and air conditioning. The food will be provided.
In Morelia, the volunteer will be staying at a hostal free of charge but the volunteer will be paying for food.

Vive Mexico has been organizing this project regularly in Rincon de Guayabitos, Nayarit since 2014. The main achievement of the project is to protect the sea turtles with the help of volunteers who will be cooperating with a team of biologists. Up to now, the project has been quite successful and has reached extraordinary results. Participating in sea turtle conservation is a great opportunity to discover the rather charming life of sea turtles. If you are a social person with group management skills, this camp can be for you! The camp language is English but as being the leader you should have some knowledge of Spanish.

Most of the students in this school are from a hill tribe villages. This is boarding school.

You’ll be welcomed as a member of the family and of the local community. At least one member of the family will speak English. Nepali houses are simple, with basic facilities (squat toilet, shower, kitchen, etc). Most families DO NOT have hot showers, but most of them have western style toilets. Just don’t expect to find the same facilities as in your home country. You’ll get your ow room and the family will respect your privacy. In order to make the most of your experience in Nepal, we encourage to interact and socialize as much as possible with your host family ad take part in their daily activities. You’ll find cities to be more similar to your country, while in the countryside many Nepalis grow their own vegetables and typically ow cows, buffalos, goats or chickens. You will be served food twice a day: breakfast around 9-10 am ad diner around 7-8 pm. You’ll soon realize that tea is the most popular beverage in Nepal: whenever you visit a family you’ll be offered a cup. When and for how long? Long term volunteering lasts 2 to 5 months. It takes some time to get used to the different lifestyle, so we advise to stay for as long as possible. Camps start the first Monday of every month. Location we provide living all over Nepal. Nepal is a very safe country, and at the moment there is NO political conflict. Eve during the conflict, Nepal was ever unsafe for volunteers; we hosted several volunteers from around the world during that period. All our long term projects are located in safe areas. You will stay with families that have hosted volunteers before, and you will be regularly in contact with FFN members. However, problems or misunderstandings may arise if you’re not respectful of the culture you’ll be living in. Below are some important points to take into consideration:
1. you might stay in places where medical facilities are not as close as you’re used to.
2. Don’t walk alone at night, and brig someone trustworthy if you ever feel unsafe.
3. Don’t walk alone in forests or any other isolated areas. Be careful near rivers, as they usually have strong currents. Don’t go around with strangers, or people who were not introduced by FFN or the host family. Don’t carry around huge amounts of money.
4. Write down the contact information of the family you’ll be staying with (host father’s name, address and phone number) and share it with someone in your home country.
5. Avoid alcohol or drugs, as the host family might be culturally sensitive towards those things.
6. Don’t enter the host family’s praying room or the kitchen without permission.
7. Communicate; feel free to talk with your host family about any discomfort or problems you may have regarding your stay, room and food (tell your host family about your likes and dislikes, and let them know whether you’re vegetarian or not).
8. Don’t forget to tell your host family if you’re planning to eat out at least 2-3 hours before
9. Don’t leave lights o in your room. Resources are very scarce in Nepal.
10. Keep your room tidy and clean.
11. Ask permission to your host family before using bicycles, radios, soap, detergents, TV’s or books that may be in your room (repair or fix items you may accidentally break).
12. Keep your room locked every time you’re out or away from home.
13. Wash your own clothes and plates.
14. Don’t expect any western food when staying with your host family.
15. All modern means of communication are available in Nepal (internet, phone, etc.); prepaid mobile SIM cards are easily available, but in the countryside reception is not always great. Maximum number of volunteers 1 at a time

Volunteers will do various types of activities such as 1) Forest conservation (cutting trees, branches and maintaining the footpaths, etc.), 2) Agricultural work (taking care of the chickens raised by the free range farming, slaughtering too old chickens (#), harvesting and packaging mushrooms, etc.) and 3) Organizing some environmental events (e.g., to collect edible wild plants, nature observation) in the mountains. #: It's hard for ASSK to keep feeding too old chickens since they don't bear the eggs anymore and feeding is quite costly. This project is actively working for SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDGs 15 (Life on Land), organized together with a local environmental Non-profit organization (NPO) Akame no SATOYAMA wo Sodateru Kai (ASSK) since 1999. Since this area is close from big cities Osaka and Nagoya, there were plans to build a golf field and an incinerator, but local people stopped those plans by the movement called National Trust. They founded the group in 1996 to collect donations to buy and protect lands, to accept people who want to enjoy nature, to maintain forests, to create a pond for dragonflies, to host national corps meeting, etc. SATOYAMA needs to be maintained by humans for its biodiversity and water adjustment function. Our ancestors had protected and utilized the forest in ecological and sustainable way, which was neglected by modernization. We will try to revive it by global voluntary power!!

Volunteers will be working closely with IVS coordinator, team leaders and other camp volunteers by providing assistance to ensure the quality of workcamp and project objectives are being reached. A committed volunteer with IT & web development, photography and video making skills will be highly desired.
Few tasks assigned for this role are:
• Assist in general administrative work related to incoming volunteers.
• Help administer and coordinate weekly plan during workcamp.
• Assist camp leaders during workcamp organisation and daily evaluation with volunteers.
• Assist in promoting our IVS projects to recruit more volunteers (Website development & promotion, social media promotion etc).
• Assist in promoting workcamp projects to recruit Indian volunteers.
• Visiting camp and project sites during camps for guidance.

Ruchi campus is located near Bandh village. It is 30 km from Kalka and 60 km from Chandigarh. Bandh village is small located in interior mountainous area and the volunteers will have a unique opportunity to live with nature in a peaceful environment. RUCHI campus is one km. from the village.
Self organized city tours and excursions. Old Sikh and Hindu temples in the near vicinity can be visited. Nearby Kasauli town is another hill station as a tourist attraction. A visit to Shimla will offer an opportunity to see high Himalayan Mountains.
Alloggio
Basic, simple, safe & clean accommodation will be provided at RUCHI campus on sharing basis (Twin or triple) with common toilets and bath.
Food offered will be simple authentic Indian vegetarian and freshly cooked. Three meals a day will be served. Assistance while cooking is desired and self cooking can be organized by volunteers

Volunteers will do various types of activities such as 1) Forest conservation (cutting trees, branches and maintaining the footpaths, etc.), 2) Agricultural work (taking care of the chickens raised by the free range farming, slaughtering too old chickens (#), harvesting and packaging mushrooms, etc.) and 3) Organizing some environmental events (e.g., to collect edible wild plants, nature observation) in the mountains. #: It's hard for ASSK to keep feeding too old chickens since they don't bear the eggs anymore and feeding is quite costly. Most chicken farms ask the special company to just kill and throw away as if they are rubbish with paying 15 yen per chicken, but ASSK does not support this and eats by themselves with deeply appreciating to their value of life.

Kami-mitani area of Nabari city, 60 km from Osaka. There are famous falls nearby many hikers visit. Many opportunities to learn the local wisdom. Sightseeing, short trip (hot springs, famous places here).

Small traditional house, on the premises of ASSK. Volunteers will cook the meals by themselves.

Motivation letter is needed! Some Japanese speaking skill (manage to have basic daily conversation). High motivation to learn and speak Japanese language and work hard with simple mountain life in a remote area without colleagues. Respect for the local culture and way of the local organization. Interests in environment issues. Open mind and flexibility.
18,000 JPY (110 EUR by the rate on 2023 Nov. 18th) per month till the 3rd month and 9,000 JPY per month from the 4th month of "NICE Volunteers" fee need to be paid in advance either by Card or PayPal. This is used for the project preparation/ coordination such as the transportation of the camp leaders while the meals and the accommodation are provided by the local host by free. Odd days are counted as one month (e.g., 170 days are counted as 6 months).

NEAREST STATION: The nearest airport is Osaka (KIX) or Nagoya (NGO). To the meeting point, it takes 2-3 hours by train from the both airports. However, volunteers need to join On Arrival and Evaluation Seminars in Osaka, so firstly should arrive at KIX by 08:00 on the starting day and can leave KIX after 18:00 on the ending day.

This project is actively working for SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDGs 15 (Life on Land), organized together with a local environmental Non-profit organization (NPO) Akame no SATOYAMA wo Sodateru Kai (ASSK) since 1999. Since this area is close from big cities Osaka and Nagoya, there were plans to build a golf field and an incinerator, but local people stopped those plans by the movement called National Trust. They founded the group in 1996 to collect donations to buy and protect lands, to accept people who want to enjoy nature, to maintain forests, to create a pond for dragonflies, to host national corps meeting, etc. SATOYAMA needs to be maintained by humans for its biodiversity and water adjustment function. Our ancestors had protected and utilized the forest in ecological and sustainable way, which was neglected by modernization. We will try to revive it by global voluntary power!!
